Excell Metal Spinning Ltd
Precision metal spinning and manufacturing from Portsmouth. ISO 9001 certified since 2004. The largest CNC metal spinning fleet south of Birmingham.
The founding company of the group
Excell Metal Spinning Ltd was established in December 2000 by Lee Bligh and Neil Hunt with a straightforward ambition: to provide a high-quality metal spinning service that adds real value to customers. Twenty-five years on, it remains the anchor of the Excell Engineering Group and one of the most capable metal spinning operations in the UK.
Operating from a 21,000+ square foot facility in Hilsea, Portsmouth, Excell combines conventional hand spinning with CNC technology – giving customers access to both the craftsmanship of skilled hand spinners and the precision and repeatability of computer-controlled machines. The workforce carries over 200 combined years of conventional metal spinning experience.
ISO 9001 certified since 2004 and JOSCAR registered for defence and aerospace supply chains, Excell operates to the standards its most demanding customers require.
Services
Hand Metal Spinning
Conventional hand spinning carried out by skilled craftspeople with decades of experience. Suited to complex shapes, short runs, large diameters, and work requiring the judgement and dexterity that only a skilled operator can provide. One of the largest hand spinning departments in the UK.
CNC Metal Spinning
Computer-controlled spinning for high-volume production, consistent repeatability, and tight tolerances. Four CNC lathes on the floor – the largest CNC fleet south of Birmingham. Suited to production runs where precision and consistency are non-negotiable.
Secondary Services
A full range of secondary manufacturing services that allow Excell to manage a larger portion of the supply chain on your behalf. Includes MIG and TIG welding, fabrication, sub-assembly, rolling, cutting, and punching.
Quality Inspection
ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management. Inspection can be tailored to customer requirements up to 100% inspection level reporting. Full traceability and material certification available on request.
Supply Chain Management
Single-source supply for complete components or assemblies. Excell manages the production process from raw material through to finished component, reducing the number of suppliers you need to manage and the time you spend doing it.
Live Order Tracking
The first metal spinning company in the UK to offer a customer portal with live order tracking. Log in and see exactly where your order is in the production process at any point in time – no chasing, no uncertainty.
Industries
Metal spinning is a fundamental manufacturing process found across virtually every sector that requires rotationally symmetrical precision components. Excell supplies customers across a broad range of industries – from defence and aerospace to lighting design and architecture.
Work worth noting
Excell's portfolio spans some of the most demanding applications in British manufacturing – from instruments aboard spacecraft to components for luxury automotive brands.
Precision Engineering for Space Exploration
Excell manufactured high-precision MAG instrument covers for Imperial College London's Solar Orbiter Mission – components now mounted on a spacecraft studying the Sun's magnetic field.
Luxury Automotive Components
Precision-spun aluminium headlight bezels, bowls, and klaxon trumpets for a luxury automotive manufacturer – replacing plastic components that failed to meet the brand's premium standards.
